A noisy city. Poirot buys meat from his favorite butcher's shop as usual. Today is an important day for him. Because today he will see his childhood sweetheart Alisa.
A couple of days ago, Alice calls Poirot and tells him that she wants to see him and that she will go to his house in two days.
Those moments have come. The doorbell rang. "ring ring"
Poirot: Who is he?
Alisa: I am Alisa
The door opened. Poirot invited Alice inside. Poirot was thrilled that Alice was still beautiful. Alisa's face was filled with anxiety and fear. Poirot understood this a little later. He invited Alisa to a table decorated with sweet treats.
Alisa: No thanks, I need your help, Poirot.
Poirot slowly sat down next to Alice and asked what had happened.
Alisa: They are trying to kill me, help me.
Poirot: Who wants to kill you? Tell me everything without haste.
Alisa: My husband George died a week ago. As far as I know, he left all his inheritance to me. My husband was very rich. The will is read every four days. I am afraid that they will kill me.
Poirot: Do you have a reason for this?
Alisa: Two days ago, when I was walking in the park with Jack, Jack is my husband's brother, and the commander shot me while we were walking. Luckily, Jack saved me. Unfortunately, we could not see who it was. Poirot I'm scared, help me please. Alisa panicked
Poirot: Don't worry, I will help you. For now, you stay here in my house. Tomorrow we will go to your house together. Maybe that guy will try to kill you again, and we will catch him.
So early in the morning. They took Alisa home. On the way, Poirot asked Alice who else lived in her house besides Alice and who often visited her house.
They came home. As they entered the house, they met Eliza, George's sister, who was returning from walking her dog.
Poirot: Good day mademoiselle
Eliza: Good day Mister Poirot. "My bride-to-be convinced you with her small fears," he said with a smile
Poirot: Not worth it! ironically
Poirot: Why do you think it's worthless? Don't you think attempted murder is worth the panic?
Eliza: Murder. There was no murder. She turned to her bride
Eliza: Alisa went inside thinking who needs such a show
Poirot: It seems that Alice and Eliza are not on good terms
Alisa: Don't mind, Alisa is a little rude, but a good girl.
They entered the house. Poirot settled in the room assigned to him. And he began to watch the garden from the window. There were workers in the garden. An old gardener watering flowers. A short distance away is a middle-aged, invisible horse breeder looking after a horse. Alice's brother-in-law Jack and his wife were talking under Poirot's window. They seemed to be very angry about something.
Dinner place. Everyone gathered around the table. Everyone was eating in silence. There was some kind of unpleasant silence. After a while, this silence was broken by Beatrice, daughter of Jack.
Beatrice: Mister Poirot, we are interested in how many criminal cases you have opened so far
Poirot: Unfortunately, I didn't count. He smiled.
Beatrice: Do you honestly think there is a murderer among us?
George told his daughter to be quiet.
Poirot looked suspiciously at George and continued.
Poirot: Anything is possible.
The servants were collecting the dishes. The horse breeder was getting instructions from George about what to do tomorrow. Alice, Eliza, Beatrice and her mother were drinking tea. There was some strange situation in the hall. Poirot feels that someone in the hall will fulfill his intention.
It's midnight.
Someone entered Alice's room. And he stabbed Alice in the groin, who was wrapped in a blanket...
After a while, he opened the basket to make sure that Alice was dead. At that moment, Poirot and Alice entered the room through an additional door. The murderer was shocked by this and tried to escape by jumping through the window, but Poirot caught him. Everyone woke up from the noise and came to Alice's room. There were Alice, Poirot and the horse breeder who wanted to kill. Poirot asked the horse breeder why he wanted to do this. Horse breeder said that he hates Alisa, that his father left his mother because of her. He was Jack's son.
Horse breeder: After my father married Alisa, my mother became ill because she couldn't bear it. I had no money to treat my mother. I was much younger. And my mother died. And I swore to kill my father and his beloved Alice. I also killed my father. My father's money belonged to me alone.
Everyone was shocked by this situation. In the meantime, police officers had also arrived. With Poirot's consent, the policemen took away the horse breeder
In the morning, as Poirot was leaving, Alice went into his room to thank him and gave him a chain that Poirot had given him as a gift. But Poirot did not take the chain and told Alice that he was glad to see that he still had it, and that he would be happy to keep it for the rest of her life. And headed home...
